Tips From Blogging With John Chow pt4
Welcome back to the continuance of my blogging with John Chow review posts. Today we start on module 6 monetization 101 “The nitty gritty and what we’ve come to learn” as John says in his intro video.
Hell yeah I’m here to get the $40’000 a month income secrets aren’t you?
Straight away John jumps in on the video with telling you why google adsense sucks when you are building a new blog.
His statements here I agree with 100% and I often wonder why the owners of new blogs see adsence as a positive on the websites in the first place.
I read right down to the bottom of the page, past the statements that it leave you in ore of his traffic numbers, past the bit about his techzone site until I see something that makes me think.
John says he started johnchow.com with future profit in mind… so eh planned it then, and does that mean there was a time when it was running at a loss?
The next page talks about having an editorial plan for your advertising Well I ain’t got one of those.. My bad, I just have ads on the side of my blog that I use and 200% behind or services that I know my readers will get a lot out of.
Look down the right hand side at my ads here at mission0ps.com – is there anything there that looks out of place you would change?
Maybe when I have 100’000 visitors a month a he does I’ll be looking further into editorial plans for ad-space But to me it’s pointless for now.
Affiliate Marketing
The lists a few tools and resources for affiliates and as you may guess… this is a section that I’m more than familiar with. I have a slightly different approach but this here is John take on affiliate marketing as he see’s it.
- Find a product to promote
- Read promotional material about the product
- Write or record a review for the product
- Integrate the review into your blog
- Follow up with your readers

The notes on the above 5 titles do have some very good points in them. Ultimately when you are building a blog for the long term your name and reputation are on the line so ethical marketing of high customer satisfaction products is the only way to go… If you can’t honestly say it’s great then don’t “promote it” on your blog.
A handful of places where you can get banner ads are mentioned BuySellAds.com was the only one I’d seen before – and they are a very decent ad network – so I’m thinking it maybe worth me checking the others out for niche specific banners.
OK this is where I eat my words … already – I know I said I wasn’t really interested in editorial ad planning BUT – I’ve just been over looking at the next page at www.bloggingwithjohnchow.com – it gives me a lot more detail of the process involved at BuySellAds and digs a little deeper into charging for a slots on your own wbsite.
Adding Adsense
This section is long and detailed and probably the most in-1-place that I’ve sen about how to use adsence properly. There is a lot of money to be made with google adsence - but straight “out the box” there are too many variables at play for it to really do you any good.
This section I will certainly come back to again, I bought a couple of EMD’s that have £40+ a click on them .. yep pounds not dollars – I’ve been waiting for the right time to do something with them looks like I’ll have to get well educated with adsense sometime soon.
My Take Away
I’m going to try something new with targeted ad slots on a blog .. hell I may even try it here on Mission0ps and see how things go.
Blogging With John Chow module 7
Hunting down loyal readers

I read the title and even before I listen to the intro video I think of the social aspect of online marketing. it’s true – we now go and hunt down loyal readers from where ever it is they congregate. be it Google+, Facebook, Twitter or forums.
Searching for your keyword forum or on Digg, LinkedIn etc is always a great place to start. Have you forgotten about your local area? I wonder if they have internet marketing groups where you live?
“I know that when I stand in-front of a group to present some training on Internet Marketing I’m so passionate about I literally feel the physical changes in my heart beat – I get really excited!
RSS feeds - something that I must be honest and say I never really got the hang of. I know that you can distribute you feed via XYor Z but I haven’t got a clue what XY & Z are so I keep my RSS activity to at least having a RSS available to those who have mastered creating their own news feeds can grab mine.
Social Media – Now I don’t have to tell you that it’s a gold mine for finding readers… You must interact with them on the social platform to build the bridge that leads them across to your blog. Once there Drip feed intravenously with awesome content on blog before you are able to ween them onto your email list as well.. It’s real work that requires time and a plan of execution that’s regimental.
Networking – Great in the blog world and something that you should be doing and you don’t need JC to tell you that do you? get out there and do it…
… Your biggest worries are that they won’t think your important enough right? … Well find that little bugger called fear and stick ‘em in the closet, there’s work to be done!

Networking starts with the simple act of quality comments on your fellow bloggers postings .. you’ll be surprised then they answer back – try it – make the comments pure gold use 500 words if you have to (but quality not garbled rubbish) .. add to there post with even more quality content you’ll be amazed at the results .
Keyword Research – This is something that I do on my Niche site. Target keywords that I know have a real reader looking for a real solutions. It’s a great way to hunt down your loyal readers – BUT I have to admit I haven’t “proactively” used that method to create posts on this website.. Something else well worth a little look into there for all of us I’m sure.
Linking Strategy’s and Link bait are on the nezt module in blogging with chow. I would dig into them but I think that if you’ve followed along with the post today you’ll see that links can come from a variety of places – social media to backlink from websites you’ve added valuable content to.
If you help other they will repay the favour even if it’s not immediately.
Link baiting is something that I haven’t really thought of creating but when I do you’ll know about it before I release it to the interweb… That’s if you are on my email list!
